Yugo SKS grenade launcher Holes and No Holes?
I have been looking at a few of these at a local shop. I noticed that some of the grenade launchers on the end have holes drilled into the side and others do not. Most are C.A.I imported. I was thinking that some may have been drilled that way so that it acts more like a muzzle break? I don't know the most original configuration and if the holes were not there would it interfere with grenade launching?
Thanks for the help. |

Theres are two different styles of grenade launcher on the Yugo 59/66 SKS'.
Ported grenade launchers were used from 1967 to 1973, when they were dropped for a non ported grenade launcher up until production finished in 1989. Those with ported grenade launchers should have a prefix for the serial number ranging from D to I. This is a date indication, which each consecutive letter referring to the next year starting from 1967. The letters just continue to indicate the year of production. Other things to note, that in 1982 the retaining ring switched from a square shape to being tapered, and in 1986 tritium sights were added to make the M59/66a1 carbine. |

I think its mostly just cosmetic on the Califonia rifles. Just because they can't have grenade launchers even though you can't find grenades for those anyways. I personlally think they look atrocious. I would prefer an ak style brake or even nothing at all but you unfortunately have to have all the original parts on it (second reason) or its not a C&R anymore.
