model 81 woodsmaster

I reciently purchased a 1950 Woodsmaster in .300 Savage. I have a small problem. When I fired it the small steel plate above the magazine spring came out. The cause was a jammed cartridge. Is there a simple way to reinstall? Can the magazine be removed without damaging anything?
Thanks in advance for any help

you will have to do a complete teardown to remove the magazine and reinstall the magazine follower.
"The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly, part IV:Centerfire Rifles, revised edition" written by J.B. Wood, has instructions for complete disassembly. page 213.
