I had some FTF problems with the Rainier 230gr RN TCJ. My smith ramped my barrel a bit more, now they feed just fine.

Midway has 1000 for $74.99. That's about the best price going right now. I just ordered 1000.

I loaded them to shoot with mild loads in my Marlin Camp, not the tightest grouping but they did OK, no fouling or very little.

Midway pretty much always has something on sale. Right now they have some of the Rainier bullets on sale. Look through the selection here:

I started using them when the prices of Zero 230 FMJ's skyrocketed. They seem to be accurate, and I haven't had any feed problems. I did have to change the adjustment for my seating die (Dillon), as the OAL on finished rounds was a bit longer than with the Zero FMJ's. That would indicate that the Rainier's have a bit different profile. I made sure my finished rounds had the same OAL as the Zero's, which I know from previous experience - worked flawlessly in my gun. So far, the Rainier's are working as well (almost 500 rounds through it).

I've been using Rainier's to good effect - like them a lot and they are cheap. However, since I bought some Masterblaster poly coated bullets, I think I prefer them. No need for copper solvents and so far they seem a little faster and cleaner. Price is comparable. I have an order in for some Precision bullets that are similar so I can compare.

I don't think you'll have any problems with Rainiers in .45ACP, as the velocity is pretty low. I have had problems with plating separation when using Rainiers for 10mm reloading.

Ranier bullets

I have asked a man at dillon about the plating issue. He told me the Ranier bullets now have thicker plating than they use to. I use them in 10mm also. I drive the 180's about 1130fps for my plinking loads, 200 grainers a bit slower. As for the profile of the 45's mensioned above, I been using them for several years, and I notices the profile changed a while back. They still work though.

I shoot the Rainier 200 HPs and love 'em. No feeding issues and that's thru my junk Kimber Grand Raptor. I also received a shipment of Berrys plated bullets today and they are a quality looking bullet. I'd buy whichever you can get the best deal on.

The Ranier 200 Gr. SWC is a great bullet. As far as the 230 Gr. RN goes, I much prefer the Berry's.

I've used them in my Glock which some say you should not do. They shot just fine for me.

Just received my 1000??? Rainier bullets from Midway. This won't be the first time that the bullets were shabbily packaged. The outer box was split at the seam, where there should have been reinforcing packing tape, but there was none. The inner box from Rainier was also split, and I don't know whether I have 1000 bullets, or whether some of my order are rattling around in that UPS truck.

I've e-mailed a pic of the inner box to Midway, complaining about the shoddy packing, but I don't really expect them to do anything.

Actually that is strange for me. First off in my 1911's I have had no issues with rainier. For plinking I use them strictly in 45acp 38/357. I just got 500 45acp, 500 38's, and 1000 44mag remingtons all in one box and all showed up in one piece in the same box.

I hope you got everything.

I've never heard anybody say not to use quality plated bullets in Glocks, and I've heard a lot of anybodies saying a lot of stuff.

AlleyKat, it was something to do with the barrel rifling being not a land and groove design. I did not listen to that and I just fired 50 of them and all went well and they were accurate. If I ever see where they come apart I'll report back, but I doubt I see that.

Rainier 230 gr 45 ACP

I've been reloading .45 ACP with Rainier 230 gr plated bullets for both my Glock 36 and my son's S&W 4553 TSW. No problems with feeding and they are as accurate as Berrys, Montana Gold or Frontier plated bullets.
