Stevens Walnut Hill

Hi folks, Bumped into a Stevens Walnut Hill 22 target rifle yesterday. SN#3214, with a 28" barrel. It is a heavy dude, and looks like it would be a tackdriver. Can any of you help me on the history, and value.

Thanks, Bob

Buy it. I'd love to have one, but I've never seen one for sale in person.

I'm not at home, so near as I remember they were made in the '30s. Price? What the market will bear because they were real target rifles. Here's the only thing I could turn up on the web in the way of a price and it's not a rimfire. It's from Julia Auctions and the date of the auction was 1996.

"994.STEVENS IDEAL WALNUT HILL RIFLE NO. 49. 28" No. 1 half round barrel with Beech's combination front sight, caliber 25-20, scroll engraved 44 action with Lyman peep tang sight, semi-deluxe walnut stocks, checkered forend and wrist, raised cheekrest, semi-Swiss buttplate of Stevens manufacture but not matching serial number and secured with two new screws. Ser. 17045. CONDITION: The barrel with 97-98% original blue and excellent bore, the action with all the original case hardened finish, some dulling on the bottom of the frame and lever, the buttplate with about all the case hardening which has lost most of its color, the middle left side of the buttstock with a 6" grain stress crack caused by a lead weight in the butt. Age makes the lead oxidize and expand, end result is a crack. Otherwise the stock in excellent condition. 4-98887 EV106 (1,350-1,900) SOLD $2,050"

A little more searching of forums turned up asking prices over the past few years of $600 to $1000 for used, but still nice examples in .22 rimfire. There weren't any pics so I don't know what "nice" really means.

walnut hill

I bought one 8 years ago and it also had a stevens 141 scope on it. A friend of mine found one last year that is real nice and he paid $1300 for it. It did not have a scope on it but had beeo sights, I don't know if that helps but these are the only two if seen or known of.
