Browning Buckmark truoble. Pleezzzz help :)

I recently bought a Browning Buck Mark Camper. The thing shoots like a dream; accurate as hell and no jams or misfires. I have went through a brick of Rem. Golden boys so i decided to break it down to clean it. Well i get the sight rail off and then i push the slide back and it says to then pull up on the spring guide rod and the firing pin housing, rod, and spring will pull out. Well mine will not pull out for [censored]. I even resorted to using pliers and just scratched the [censored] out of it. Is it really that stuck in there or am i doing something wrong. If anybody has experience with the guns or has had this problem with thier Buck Mark, i sure could use the help.

I had the same problem with mine the first time. I had to use a flathead screwdriver and a dental pick to get it out. The good news is that it gets easier as time goes on. After you've broken it down a few times, it should be easy enough to do it with just your fingers. Why it's made of plastic is anyone's guess...

Shoot a few hundred more high velocity rounds like stingers or velocitors and it will loosen up a bit. It definitely gets easier as it loosens up.

I got so irritated with my Hunter that I traded it off. In trying to remove the guide rod, it got bent, the slide wouldn't go forward all the way and, well, shooting it was a pain. I got the rod straigtened out and it was ok.

I called Buckmark and the service rep was quite rude. She said I wasn't supposed to remove that part and that I needed to read my manual. I told her that step was in the manual. She said she would send a new rod (just the rod, no housing), but I needed to send it in next time. Very rude.

By the time I got the rod, I had already traded the pistol off. I won't be buying anything from Buckmark again. I got a Ruger Mark II and it's been a dream.

It's been a while since I took apart the slide assembly in one of my Buckmarks but...

Is your Camper with the new style slide with plastic insert that contains the recoil assembly and firing pin or the older one with a small plastic retainer at the front of the rcoils spring guide (not talking about the plastic buffer in the back)? [Don't recall if the Camper came out before or after the intro of the new style. New style has wing extensions on the rear sides of the slide to aid grip.]

Are you trying to remove the assembly with the slide locked back? If so, release it and try removing the assembly.

The rear of the recoil spring guide is pointed. Where the recoil spring guide butts up against the rear post, the point rests into a small conical recesses on the face of the post. (The point goes through a hole in the plastic buffer.) Could this be hanging you up?

Grab the rod with your fingers while the slide is closed. Slowly retract the slide while pulling up on the front of the rod. It should come right out.

It won't come right out and mine is the new model camper you described. It s like it is frozen in there i even soaked it with oil. It won't come out.

Well it shoots great. I just run a rod down the barrel to clean it, because i can't get the damn rod out to clean under the slide. How neccassary is this step in cleaning. Could i just keep cleaning the bore and be fine.

If you're gonna keep doin that, you should probably get a bore guide so you don't mess up the barrel crown. Other than that, it should be fine until a few thousand rounds, but eventually the internals will have to be cleaned. The most we've put through ours without cleaning is a little ove one thousand rounds.

Try pulling the slide back enough to grab the front of the recoil spring guide and just lift it up. With the recoil spring guide out, the slide can be removed.

Personally, I don't scrub out the bore of my rimfires anymore until accuracy/precision starts to open up. Have been doing this since discussing cleaning with some bench resters afew years ago. In short, more wear to the bore is done by cleaning with a metal brush than running lead rounds down the barrel. When I do scrub it out, I use a bore snake pulling from breech to muzzle. The firing pin channel has never gotten dirty enough to affect firing pin function and I clean out any residue on the feed area and recoil spring guide rod by just locking the slide back and scrubbing from the side.

The only reasons I have taken the slides of my Buckmarks apart was (1 time) to see how it operates and (1 time) replace the entire older slide assembly of my Unlimited with the newer one (I like the slide extensions, particularly for the Buckmarks with the wide sight rail). Got all of the upper assembly parts from Brownells and assembled it to drop it in.

That exact part was a bear for me to remove as well!
For the first few cleanings I left it alone in fear of bending the rod.

Finally I got brave and just put some muscle behind it.

Trying to pick it up from one end just seemed to jamb the other end in harder.
I carefully grabbed the plastic part with a pair of pliers pulled and wiggled the whole unit straight up.

Once you get it broken loose then you can go the rest of the way by hand.
(Eventhough I was trying to be careful, everything still flew acrossed the room from all the spring tension)

After the first time it was still tight but now I can do by hand.
For some reason that piece is really in there good?

Don't let that piece of plastic get the best of you.

Good info ... I don't use a wire brush on any of my firearms now. I'm all about the patchworm (patchworm.com). It's the best cleaning tool I've ever used. Wish I'd have thought of it. Works wonders on a .22!!

They told me to take it out the way i am trying. But when i asked them why it would be frozen in there like that they had no explanation. I will in up bending the rod to take it out. Do any of yall no of something i could spray on it to help unfreeze it and won't hurt the gun.

It shouldn't be so hard to get it out, and you shouldn't have to use pliers. Try pushing the recoil spring guide at the barrel-end of the rod a little bit (toward the rear of the gun) and then pulling it up toward yourself and lifting the whole thing out.

O.k., I'm looking at my owner's manual for my standard buck mark, and I can't find a firing pin housing part listed. If your model is like the standard buck mark, to field strip you just take the top off, get the recoil rod and buffer out, and you're ready to clean.

The black thing that the rod runs through. It houses the firing pin. And this Ruger shoots better, with less problems than the Ruger i had.
