SKS problem

I have a friends yardsale-bought Yugo, and I'm trying to help him get it in better shape but it's a real peice of junk. Crappy fiberforce installation, ill fitting usa "detatchable" mag, bent triggerguard, .....
When he got it it would fire once, empty would stick in the chamber, he smacked the bolt till it would drag the shell out, and just gave up.
First of all the recoil spring was in backwards, and it had definitley been fired with alot of cosmoline still in it. I have cleaned this thing like crazy, Even scrubbed the chamber out with an old .44 mag brush. Everything works smooth when cycled. I even threw a ten round box on it to avoid dealing with that usa junk. It still wouldn't cycle when I tested it. So I put the gas tube of off my Yugo on it for another run.
Now, it will fire and feed. But it won't eject the last shell when it's empty..
what should I do next?

Make sure the gas tube is sealed nice and tight at the front gas block. I've heard others fashion o-rings for a tighter seal.

The first time I pulled the tube off it had some rust around the gas block part, and alot of build up as well.

If it's not ejecting sounds like the extractor is worn or has a bunch of crud behind it. Clean the bolt assembly real good and try again.

I cleaned the heck out of everything.... But, with that advice,,, yup, there is "crud" built up back there. I'm going to keep this thread going till Friday, because I can only test fire this rifle Wednesday and Friday evenings.

have you disassembled the bolt and cleaned out the firing pin raceway, the ejector hole and the extractor?

What do the spent shells look like? Is the chamber in good shape?

Gather the stuff; good punches, bore brush or Boresnake, Brakleen or Powder Blast, Hoppes #9, Rem Oil or CLP, pipe cleaners, and an old toothbrush.

Take it apart; all the way including the bolt.

Now, clean everything; Brakleen or Powder Blast, hosing everything until it runs out clear, then clean out the bore, gas tube, and pushrod channel with the bore brushes. Use pipe cleaners on the firing pin channel, gas port, grooves, rails, etc. Then pretend it's still dirty and do it all again with the Hoppes. Lube it as you reassemble, and see how it does after that.

Cosmoline finds its way into every recess of the gun, gums it up and holds grit in all the wrong places. Great for preserving a gun in storage, awful for a gun in use.

You have no ejector - or the spring is broke - or the cosmoline has it glued in place.

Replace it.

The ejector is there, and it is not stuck. How can i tell if the spring is

To determine if the spring is "broke", disassemble the bolt.

It takes a punch and hammer to drive out the headed cross pin. Once it is out the firing pin, extractor and spring are freed.

Just something that came up on another thread - make sure the recoil spring and guide assembly is in so the large hollow guide is to the rear. If it is not, the spring can kink behind the bolt carrier and cause a malfunction.

Yeah, you're probably talking about my thread regarding the exploded view on the SIMINOV site, my buddy got it in backwards cause of that drawing..
I'm worried that repeated firing with the spring in backwards could have ruined the spring, or something else. I'm going to pick up some parts this weekend at a gunshow.
Anyone have any suggestions??

I put a new gas valve that I bought from CNC warrior for $10.00 on this rifle and it fixed the problem, also went ahead and put one on my yugo, and I could actually tell the difference, works great, better than before..
