308 win and 760 powder
Has anyone reloaded for a .308 win using winchester 760 powder. Using the reloading data that I have, it fills the case over the mouth. So that can't be right. Even using the data for the minumum load fills it half way up the neck on the case. If anyone has any reloading data for the 308 using 760 powder, please let me know what your using. Or I guess if you have a good load using another powder let me know too. I've used 760 powder for reloading for a 243and 270 and have had excellent results. I've never reloaded for a 308. I just got this one a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to find a good load for it. I'm going to try the 150 gr Hornady interbonds first and see how they work out.

748 is more usual in .308 and .223 both. 760 is a tad slow. I show it coming up to low target pressure levels in a standard case with a 175 grain Sierra MK just as the case hits 100% full. That means the load will actually be a bit compressed because 100% assumes the powder has flowed neatly around the boattail when it seats down on it, and that seldom really happens. So I think your load data is probably all for compressed loads. A new Winchester case will take a couple more grains to get to the same place and pressures, but you will still compress. I did spot one load that was only 44 grains under a 165 grain bullet, but expect it will be pretty sluggish. No velocity listed. Lighter bullet loads are listed, but light bullets loads with slow poweder can apparently cause secondary pressures spikes and are to be avoided IMHO.

I don't have any experience with 760, but I would check the data you are using and see if it lists the charge as a compressed load. Most, if not all, of my data sources have something to identify compressed loads. You might also try Varget for the 308, I have been using it for a couple of years with excellent results.

I use 748 for .308, 42gr for Hornady 168gr AMAX to be exact. On that note, does anyone here have data for 748 in .270 and or 7mm Rem. Mag? Thanks in advance if you do!
