38 spl load questions

As I don't have a Hornady loanding manual yet.... cant buy one either due to getting divorce papers..... anyway I want to load some of what I have here as I am limited to what I can buy at the moment. What I have is...

Hornady 38 cal 158 grain FP/XTP bullets
Win 38 spl brass
choice of powder:
Accurate # 7
Win 296
Hp-38
Hodgdon H110
CCI 500 small pistol primers

What's my charge?
what powder to use?
what's my OAL?
Crim or no crimp?

Looking for medium charge...

Of those listed, HP-38 is the only one well suited to medium 38 loads.

That's fine with HP-38 but what would the OAL be set at?

Just tried one lastnight with that oal and does it matter if the recessed ribbed area of the bullet is above the end of the brass? if so then that's where it would land with setting it to that oal..... Jeff.

Go ahead and bump it down until the cannelure (recessed ribbed area of the bullet) is centered under the top edge of the brass.

Different lots of bullets sometimes have the cannelure positioned in slightly different spots on the bullet.
