Can any of you cowpokes (especially Cherokee Cowboys) tell me what the standard target size is and the normal distance for pistol targets. I want to set up my own "mini range" for practice.

Take a look at SASS' web site at www.sassnet.com .

Click on the "Shooter's Handbook" link.

Howdy Will,

The Cherokee Cowboys use 18x24" steel targets for pistol, set at about 10 yards. For rifle,we use 12x12" diamonds set at about 15 yards. A good idea is to practice with smaller targets than you'll see in a match.

I like shooting at bowling pins for practice. I sorta feel if I can hit them in practice, then big cowboy targets would be easier in the real match.
