First Chronograph

Help!!

I need suggestions on which chronograph to get. I am going to try and get my wife to get it for me for my birthday this year. The two that I have to choose from is the Beta-Chrony and the Pro Chronograph Plus. Or should I just get the Shooting Chrony F-1?

I won't be using it that much and I don't mind writing stuff down by hand, so what are the advantages of each.

Thanks,

The Shooting Chrony brand builds good stuff. I'm very happy with mine.

BUT.

It is IMPERATIVE that you get the "Master" series of whatever you get. The Master line has all the brains in a remote unit that sits at your bench. If you shoot the chrono, the replacement cost for the rest of the unit (case, sensors, screens, rods) is $35. The brain unit stays on the bench so it doesn't have to be replaced. The F1 and other non-Master line Shooting Chronys have the brains in the unit itself. If you shoot the F1 through the heart, its gone, and so is your $70.

I bought a Shooting Chrony for, I believe, $45. Call the company and ask them if they have any refurbished ones. I haven't shot mine yet and don't intend to. It is possible, and I have seen it done on three occasions. So keep it in mind.
For me, so far, the Shooting Chrony is all I need. I have never wanted for anything better.

Get a low end Chrony, but get a Master Chrony-a master F-1 would work well. Then get a statistical calculator. $20 tripod from WalMart is also helpful, as are a pad of paper and pen if you don't get the printer attachment.

And if you get a model with the 1/8" plug on the front, you can easily make a pushbutton switch that allows you to remotely control the device (cycle through the readings, and reset).
