The push for NC reciprocity is on!!

From Packing.org:

While he states that he sees no problem with reciprocity, he doesn't let reciprocity bills get to the Senate floor to be voted on either. He needs to hear from out of state residents that it impacts tourism and makes N.C. look backward. However, be polite since we want to look like a positive group to attract as tourists. His email is [email protected] at the legislature.

You MUST be a RESIDENT of N. C. to be afforded the priviledge of the N.C. "open carry" law --- call and check with the Attorney General office in Raleigh!!!

This essentially means that out of state residents have no means of self-protection, and still can be arrested for "concealed carry" even if the weapon is inaccesible, and cannot even open carry! You have to have the firearm, locked in the trunk. This is an extremely pathetic situation, and for anyone travelling up the I-95 corridor to Virginia, it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to avoid NC due to the configuration of the state.

Marc Basnight is the President Pro Tem in the Senate. The bill that would make NC a reciprocity state is H442, which was passed overwhelmingly by the House, and is being bottled up by extreme anti-gunner Senator Kay Hagan.

Basnight, like I said above, said that he "Supports" reciprocity, but he's unwilling to discharge it for a floor vote.

If you live in NC, join Grass Roots North Carolina (www.grnc.org) and contact him at the email address above.

If you do not live in NC, contact him anyway. If you want a guide on how to approach him, here's a copy of the email that I sent him:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Basnight,

I want to direct your attention to H442, a bill that is currently in the Senate Judiciary Committee II. It is currently being held up by Senator Kay Hagan, who has threatened to kill any so-called "pro-gun" bills that come into her committee. This after the lower house of the NC General Assembly passed the bill overwhelmingly.

You have said in the past that you support reciprocity for Concealed Handgun Permits. However, Senator Hagan has indicated otherwise and has chosen to "bottle up" not only H442, but other bills as well that are important for the rights of gun owners in North Carolina. H442 deserves a floor vote in the Senate. It's too important a piece of legislation to be bottled up for a vindictive political vendetta of a chairperson.

Mr. Basnight, I'm writing you as a person who is not a resident of the state of North Carolina. I am a visitor to the state, and often stay there and travel through the state in order to get to Virginia and Pennsylvania. North Carolina's lack of reciprocity in any way shape or form means I have to take advantage of Title 18, United States Code, Section 926, which means I will have to lock up my handgun in my trunk, and go through the state continious and uninterrupted.

As a result, I will have to full up the tank of my car, use the bathroom, and such right at the border of your state, and then go through your state, not stopping for any reason, no gas, no food, no lodging.

In other words...I won't spend a dime in North Carolina until reciprocity is established for Florida carry permit holders. Until your state recognizes my license, you won't get any of my money through sales taxes, and I will be urging other Florida license holders to do the same who travel through your state.

So, I'm asking you, Mr. Basnight, to discharge H442 to the floor of the Senate, so I can actually enjoy your state, spend money there to add to the local economy, and, of course, your tax rolls.

Regards,

Lonnie Wilson
