Primer Sealers?

I've never done it. I've seen it on military surplus. I've never had a moisture-fouled primer either.

The question: Is there any reason to worry about sealing primers for hunting loads?

I.E. may take a fall into the creek, rain, snow, etc. No way to really clean or dry the ammo after an accident for several hours in most cases.

If I should or can seal them, what with?

I've been working up hunting loads using CCI primers, as they seem to give more tension(and I'm assuming a better seal) when I seat them.

Thank in advance!!!!!!

The only cartridges I ever sealed where the .44 Magnum and 12 gauge I loaded for SCUBA diving and my BangSticks. I used the cheapest fingernail polish I could find. And, it worked fine down to 125 feet...

I don't know how much you need to worry about it but you can use clear nail polish to seal the primers. Just don't tell your wife what you're going to paint it on

You should also be able to run a small ammount around the case mouth to ensure that no water can seep in around the bullet either. I admit it's highly unlikely, but if you're only going to be sealing up a few rounds before hunting I can't imagine it would hurt. I've never done that so I'd load some light loads first and test it just in case it adds enough extra pull to increase pressures.

Nail polish works fine. I used to do the same thing as sricciardelli for my Bankstick/Powerheads. If you reload and the calibers you hunt with are .308, 30-06 .303 or 223 you might want to consider Canadian IVI production overrun military brass it comes already primed and sealed, and the inside of the neck has a substance that would seal the bullet once it's seated.
