Remove White Lettering

Picked up this Taurus Tracker a couple of weeks ago but I'm not a big fan of the lit up lettering. Tryed non acetone nail polish remover, black nail polish, etc and nothing seems to stick or cover it up. Any ideas?

Get a black sharpie and color it in.

Get some lacquer thinner and a solvent-proof toothbrush.
Wet the brush and gently scrub the filling out. Apply a lube after it's dry to prevent rust.

Lacquer thinner will not harm bluing, parkerizing, or plating. It might attack some of the paint-type gun finishes and some sights like white dot or fiber optic type sights.

Black sharpie looks purple on bluing and dosen't cover the paint up, and acetone won't touch it, gonna try laquer thinner next. May just have to live with it!

Black nail polish is surprisingly durable, I used it to touch up my paintball gun years ago and the fix has proved permanent. And that's not on a recessed surface.

Thanks for the constructive suggestions! Not sure what all the Taurus bashing is about??? Maybe some bad experiences? I personally have no problem with owning a Taurus, had some good ones in the past. I also own Springfields, Rugers, Barettas, Remingtons, Marlins, and have had many more in the past. If it wasen't any good I'd get rid of it! (The electrical tape was kinda funny though)

Acetone. Buy a can and pour it into glass deep enough to soak the barrel in overnight. It may take a day or 2 but it will soften the paint and remove it. It evaporates quickly so the taller and thinner the glass the better (less surface area means less evaporation). --Jerry

It's paint, how about Paint Stripper?

Jasco makes a paint and epoxy stripper that pretty much dissolves anything. It's possible Taurus used an epoxy paint for durability. You may have to let it soak, scrape with a toothpick, reapply etc. but stripper will be better than acetone by itself.

Whatever you use, test a spot on the frame underneath the grip to see if it discolors the bluing. Good luck

Brownells sells gunsmithing epoxy that is black. I use it on all my metal engraving projects and the stuff is tough. Every engraved piece on these webapages has a black background which is a Brownells product designed for firearms.

They aren't strong enough. It would just result in a broken pick and a scratched revolver.

A plaque scaler would work better, but most 'consumer grade' versions are still too weak or too brittle.

Ok, I'm trying the black nail polish again. My problem is when I wipe off the excess, it wipes right out of the lettering. Must be doing something wrong?

Use a toothpick to apply the black nail polish in the lettering, alternatively, you could dip the toothpick in acetone and painstakingly rub the lettering off.
