What powder for .308Win 180gr BTHP Match?
I want to try 180gr bullets for 1000yrd shooting. I've run IMR 4895 for 168gr bullets and I've had good luck. Unfortunately, most reloading manuals don't recommend that I load past 41.5gr to 2500FPS. This will get me out to 1000yrd, but it's not the best trajectory. Any suggestions?

Hi, Redhook - - -
Sorry I didn't notice you were more interested in the 180 gr. bullet earlier--Anyway, I loooked up the following and sugest you go to the llinks indicated and see what they have to say about the heavier bullets - - -
This is from the powder mfgrs themselves - - - From Alliant: Sierra 168 Match BTHP Case: Fed. Min OAL 2.700" BBL Length 24" Primer Fed. 210M Powder Reloder 15, 42.8 gr. Vel: 2,665 Pressure 56,600 psi http://recipes.alliantpowder.com/rg....erra%20168HPBT IMR data: Remington Case; Fed. 210 Pr Sierra 168 Gr. Match .308" Dia.; 24" BBL.; 2.755" C.O.L. IMR 4064 43.7 2680 59000 Psi IMR 4895 43.8 2690 58000 psi http://www.imrpowder.com/rifle/new01...8w_4_data.html I've used 42.0 gr of 4895 with both the 168 Match King and the 165 Game King in my 20" bbl Savage Scout and been well pleased with the results to 200 yards. I realize this is nowhere near 1000 yds, but, for what it's worth - - - ![]() Best, Johnny |
