Or a proper height front sight for an HK USP Expert with a bright dot.
TIA! |

Stole 2 bottles of nail polish from bamawife, 1 white, 1 some shade of reddish orange. Used 'em for years.

White out
White out typing correction liquid or the tape works great. Only downside is the lack of color selection.

We used white out in the '80s when we were till toting revolvers. Larry Potterfield has a video on how to modify your sight with a red ramp. The same technique may be used for a white ramp (use white paint mixed with epoxy).

I went on eBay and bought some fluorescent orange paint for restoring automotive gauge needles.
Pretty durable and very bright if that’s what you want. |

I have tried fluorescent model paint of different sorts and come to a different conclusion. The target background is bright. To make the front sight post stand out, it is better to make it darker, not brighter. It is same idea of the old oil lamp soot. Now the go-to paint is flat jet black.
Red dot and light pipe are different. They can actually be significantly brighter than the background. Paint depends on light reflection from behind. Almost no chance to be bright enough. Going the other way works way better. -TL Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk Last edited by tangolima; June 24, 2025 at 04:24 PM. |

I do a lot of cast fishing lures. Jigs, Spinner baits and buzzers. These take a beating bouncing of rocks and stuff. I found enamels didn’t hold up, neither did lacquer. I started using Do-It vinyl paints. Good degrease with alcohol and apply in 2 or 3 thin coats. White is what most want. They make many colors as well as glo, pearl and flo. White base coat makes colors brighter.

For price/availability/durability it's hard to beat model paint.
You can get it in solvent and water based and in flat or gloss. It's durable, and easy to remove or redo it. There are many colors available. A good one is to coat the sight with Gloss White paint, let dry fully, then apply a coat of Fluorescent Red. The Gloss White under coat makes the Fluorescent Red really "pop". Acrylic fingernail polish also works very well and is even more available at many stores. |

I use fingernail polish. Orange for the rear and fluorescent green for the front.

Making Dots with paint takes a little practice. I use the handle from an artist brush. Pull the collar with bristles off. Put in pencil sharpener and sharpen it as you would a pencil.
Then cut off to desired diameter by rolling utility knife blade for clean cut. Put drop of paint on a non porous surface. Then just lightly touch paint and it will accumulate on your stick. When doting a sight you just touch it with paint and draw stick straight off. You have to experiment with size of point to get “ Dot” size you want. Also paint has to be thinned properly. To thick and it doesn’t dry. |
