What's your "truck gun"?
We all have them or want them - just hopefully never need them.
I've got a S&W M&P40 police trade-in that is my console travelling companion. But I also keep a Kel Tec KSG behind the back seat of my F150. So...what keeps you safe on your journeys? |

S&W 317 .22 in my GHB, and a folded AK behind the back truck seat.....not to mention the 43X on my waist.

My A2 Franken-carbine and Beretta 92fs both have functioned flawlessly for 11 and 17 years respectively.

depends on the perceived threat level and where I am going. Today it was a Mossberg 500 Cruiser 20 GA and a sack of #3 Buck.

I guess it all depended on the truck. When it was my 1979 F150 two door, there was an Indian blanket seat cover that had a sleeve that ran along the front of the seat. I kept a Winchester M94 30-30 carbine there most of the time. Usually had a handgun of one type or another along for the ride, most of hime it was a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Magnum.
I sold the F150 and bought a 1993 Toyota, a model that lated came to called the Tacoma. I couldn't find one of those blanket seat covers so to a soft case and hung it behind the seat of the truck and the 30-30 spent its time there. Handgun usually was a 1911A1 .45 ACP. Later the Toyota went to my grandson and I bought a Suzuki Samurai. ![]() I replaced the Suzuki with a used 2004 Tacoma four door and no place to stash a rifle. That truck was a number one lemon and I traded it off for a 2015 F150 club cab. Usually a handgun in the console and on in my pocket. Totaled the 2015 in 1/2/2020 and replaced it with a 2019 F150 four door which is my current ride. Most of the time it's a Colt Commander in an IWB holster and an S&W M60 in my pocket for a back up. All the vehicles mentioned were 4x4s. I've always had a firearn of one kind or another in just about every vehicle I have owned. Paul B.

If I had a truck, one of these Sig/Flux Raiders would be my truck gun of choice:

An hour riding around in your average rural truck would destroy that "space gun".

This one will probably get promoted to “Truck Gun” status, so far has been extremely reliable, got tired of fooling with AR pistols, so I pinned and welded a flash-can to it. I will do some more testing with it but I have no reason to doubt its reliability as I’ve put several boxes of ammunition through it. Eventually I’ll swap out the antique Weaver with a more modern optic, although it’s perfect for a truck gun so… it might stay.
Stupid looking gun, cobbled together from the remains of other projects, expensive to feed, but she’s fun as long as friends don’t see you with her, lol. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

stupid is as stupid does
Hey Ricklin,
I actually like your "stupid gun". Curious about what I think is a light on the off side of the carbine and the mount used.....another pic maybe and a comment on components. |

truck gun
Never answered the original question.
I consider any "truck gun" a long gun or carbine. Any handgun should be on my person, holstered. That said, I've been wobbling back and forth with several long guns, depending somewhat on the circumstances. A bolt .308 carbine, either an early Savage Scout or a more recent 18" Ruger Predator is often riding with me. I've also found a 18-20" 12 ga. pump gun, with an assortment of ammo close at hand, a versatile firearm. With the recent societal unrest, (covid, BLM, now ICE/Kings and the middle east) I have of late began taking an AR carbine with extra mags. Bamawife thinks I've gone a little looney. |

Yes it has a surefire mounted off to the side, it’s a magpul mount if I remember correctly. It’s kinda weird and only works with those “stilt” type scope mounts, otherwise there’s not room on the rail. I’ll see if I can snap a picture of the other side. It’s a very lightweight maneuverable gun. I may SBR it one day, but the flash-can isn’t heavy.

rick-somethin'
Yeah, the pics help and I will check on Magpul mount. Interesting because you can add a light, but still run a tube fore-end. Not a real fan of the cheese graters.
Working on a utility AR using a tube fore end, a fixed Magpul carbine stock, and 1" low power variable. An old set of Nikon rings might allow the same light mount you are running. Thanks |

Here are the rings I used, purchased long ago, they are light and take up very little rail real estate.

Whatever I’m carrying in the truck. I personally don’t want to leave any guns in my truck. You might consider that when choosing a truck gun.

Truck gun doesn’t necessarily mean to leave in a vehicle. Truck gun is when people spend all day working in or near their truck all day such as in a farm, ranch or homestead. Others call them “brush-guns” where as someone is out in the sticks all day.
They are really beater guns that have been proven reliable and can withstand a few dings from kicking around in a pickup, tractor, ATV or side-by-side to handle the unforeseen threat, predator or random beer can that needs some hole punching. Some are equating the term “truck gun” to “EDC” which is kinda different but could be the same depending on your situation. Some people’s EDC might fulfill the role all the same. People in urban settings probably aren’t going to be weeding petunias with a rifle or shotgun in the cart, but some rural people might, my wife has her very own carbine to tote around the garden area. I’d never leave a gun in the truck or on the tractor in my absence, but there’s many times a rifle was in the truck all day and into the night. Where I live, there is one precinct constable (a shady one at that) and is usually more than 30 minutes away if summoned. There’s always a rifle or carbine within arms reach, no depending on law enforcement help.

No long gun
I reckon my truck gun would be the G19 in my backpack. My guns will be with me and if they are in the truck, so am I.
