Actually, according to SAAMI specs the .22LR, .22 Long, and .22 Short all use a nominal .2255" bullet. .22 WMR uses a .2245 bullet.

The older .22 WRF used a nominal .2285" bullet.

My only working .22 revolver is my elderly Combat Masterpiece, from before the "model 18" designation.
I sometimes shoot my Uncle's Charter Pathfinder but its sticky extraction reduces the fun factor. The guy who did chamber and throat honing has retired and I don't want to pay for a reamer. I am setting up to polish the chambers and if they get a bit oval, that is just tough.

Thanks for the numbers, appreciated. Tho the principle remains the same, convertible guns will feature the larger .22 mag bore size. I'm impatiently waiting for Taurus to offer a greater than 3" barrel on their 942, 10 or so models cataloged all with a 3" barrel max. What are they thinking? My Taurus 94 has been a good gun. It's 4.5 or 5 can't recall which.

I have several 22 rimfire revolvers and a Ruger autoloader. Between all of them easily the Smith & Wesson Model 35 is the nicest to shoot and most accurate.

My only .22 revolver is my treasured 6” Colt Diamondback. Almost too valuable to plink with. And those chores are easily handled by my S&W M&P 22 Compact.

Ruger Super Single Six. Had a trigger job for a 2# pull. Ridiculously accurate.

Glad to hear your is better than mine. Not at all noticeable unless bench resting the pistol, but the magnum is more accurate.

My Single Six I bought new in 1959.
Still locks up tight and shoots better than I do after 65 years of lead through the pipe.

I'm going to have to go back and count how many people have posted semi-autos as their favorite .22LR revolver.

I shoot my Ruger Blackhawk for NRA national match Bullseye, and during the rapid fire section it sounds like it's being fired fully semi-auto.

Glad I am not the only one that noticed that. I'm still mystified why Taurus only offers a 3 inch barrel on their 942 revolver. Heck a .22 magnum can't even get to going in that short a barrel. Does not help to have ten different variations all offered with a choice of 2 inch or 3 inch. That's barking stupid IMO.

I’ve got 5 pre model 17 & 3 M17s, all 6” but one 83/8”. My original I got NIB on a deal in 1964. Prior to that had 2 Ruger S-6s, one was used flatgate the other
NIB in 1962. Years later I had Super Singles and S&W 34s & 63s.
When fix’n to go in the woods I always carry my original M17. I still own the others but rarely shoot them.
I always had the old K22 as a keeper but got into autos in 70s and know also have 14 M41 S&Ws, 2 Brownings, 6 High Standards , 1 Colt & 1 Ruger. All these are from the era of milled parts.
I sold and traded off 2 H&R revolvers last month. I don’t miss them but the crazy prices pilgrims pay for H&R 999 is crazy. Guy made me a deal I couldn’t refuse.

I sure miss "plinking" . Here is SW Pa. it is almost impossible to find a place to plink.

In my youth there were abandoned quarries ,strip mines ,and other places where you could shoot and nobody gave it a second thought. Rolling cans ,rocks ,dirt clods with a couple of boxes of 22 it didn't get much better. We always took any trash with us.

Now fire a couple of shots anywhere but a range and you may have a SWAT team show up.

Most ranges are paper target only. Some are limited to 6 shots in handguns. This is a pain with modern 10 shots.

Sometimes the good ole days were actually pretty good.

Another Ruger Single Six convertable here, 6 1/2 inch barrel, .22lr/.22wmr.
I bought it in 1973, maybe early 1974. My only handgun for many years.

Plinking...ah, the old man's game nowadays. My tastes vary by the day, but currently this is the one that gets strapped on for meadow walks and fence line reconnoiters.

I found this Ruger Single Six, with both cylinders, at a small town Pawn Shop here in KY. No box with it, but its condition was virtually 'unfired'. After a break in of several hundred shots of LR and about 125 of the Magnums, it's equally accurate with either. Twenty five yd groups off a fence post rest, run well under 2" now with some down around an inch if I'm having a good 'eyes' day and the sun's behind me.

First pic shows it as it came from the shop, with a holster I made up for field carry. The 2nd has it with a set of stocks I fashioned from a left over piece of fancy walnut(?), from my wood shop. Best regards, Rod

My old S&W Model 63 with a pinned barrel in 22LR.
Bought from a former FFL friend and still has the original wood grips and red ramp front sight. A great little revolver!
