Newbie checking in here.I've been a rimfire shooter forever and have recently had the urge to step up to a centerfire.I've been looking at a Savage mod 12fv in .223.Eventually would like to change the stock when funds permit.Any opinion good or bad would be appreciated.BTW I primarily shoot off the bench and would like something I can afford to shoot hence the .223.

Eh Brah! Sounds like good choice in starting your centerfire rifle collection. All reviews I read about it rates it with good to excellent accuracy. The Bell & Carlson Medalist stock will be a nice replacement stock in my opinion. HS Precision is also a nice choice if you are trying to keep the spending down. Any plans on what scope you'll mount on that rifle? Josh

Mahalo cuz!I've got a few scopes in mind but was even considering using one that I allready have.I've got a few variables that I can try until I decide what kind of magnification range I like with that rifle.I was thinking about using a 3x9 and breaking in the barrel with that then upgrade to something with a little more mag while I'm figuring out what kind of ammo she likes.Been looking at the Weaver T series.

Eh Brah, Aloha! The Weaver T series are nice scopes, are you planning of getting high magnification right away? Don't go too high for magnification unless you are planning of doing some bench rest competition. A nice starting scope in 3x9 will be a Burris FFII with ballistic plex, I think they are the best bang for the buck at this time. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=213649
I replaced my old Burris FF 3x9 with one of those and the clarity is better and stands up to the recoil of an 8lb 270Win bolt action rifle. Very nice all around for hunting and the repeatability of the adjustments and durability is something I will bet a nicely invested hunt with. Try one at your local sporting goods store. Are you in Honolulu or Hawaii? We were there 2 weeks ago and the pineapple and papaya were superb. My wahine enjoyed the 3 days we were there. Post picture when you get your rifle. josh
