hello
i am going to get either a savage 308 or 30-06 or a rem 700 in 308,30-06 or 8mm

i need a scope. zoom is a plus. i want something that i can hunt with as well as long range target shooting. i want the range to be in 200ish, if its a really good deal i will splurge for a tad more, but no more than 300 with mounts.

i would like to use this with other rifles if i buy a different one later. i hear there are some for a certain round, is that correct?

thanks

I picked up the Leupold Rifleman at Wal mart for $250 . Impressive scope. I t holds up to the punishing 300 mag recoil very well. Have shot very very nice groups with it at 200 yards. yes, under a half inch. Not bad for a "cheap" scope. Its not a VxII, or III but i think it works as good. Ive heard good and bad stuff about ncstars and millet. theie bells and whistles are cool, but they are built a little uhm, cheap and doubt they will hold up for very long. They have stuff like illuminated reticles and built in rangfinders. But illstick with a good Leupold.

Find yourself a used Nikon Monarch in the 3x9 power and the cheapest mount you can rely on will be Leupold or Redfield type of mounts. Now if you want something that is even cheaper and with a ballistic plex type, get a Burris FullField II in 3x9 with a spotting scope deal for about $199.00 from Bearbasin, SWFA or Midway USA and order the rings and base too all for under 300 including shipping. The Burris FFII will serve you well. josh
