Just for fun guys:
When you want to head up into the mountains for an afternoon of search your soul... what do you take with you?

I used to load up my old '78 Ford pickup with my two dogs (German Shepards, Phobos and Deimos other wise known as Fear and Dread - the moons of Mars), and put my rifle in the back window - a Marlin lever action in .44 magnum. (last month I sold my Marlin, needed a fast wad of cash and the bank looked too solid).
That was some good times last trip... I will have to go agin soon. Next trip will be in the Rockies instead of the lush Appalacians.

Any good get away spots in the rockies? (dumb question)

Nice resurrection, Siggy. 01 Toy Taco (toyota tacoma), 5sp std, 4x4, supercab short bed, SR5 package, Pace brand cab-high camper, Rudy (the 35 pound mutt) - he loves the outdoors, and I'd take at least 3 rifles - *right now* probably the CZ 452 in .22 mag, the marlin 60 in .22lr, and the Saiga .308 AK, 22" bbl, and a couple of handguns (the Taurus 94, 5", .22lr and the CZ85, 9x19). If I headed off on foot, I'd take the Marlin .22 - it's fairly light (unless some big game was in season, then the .308).

Well, the dog is easy. The "family" yellow lab, answers to Bullet, but I call him Big B or Bull-dog and he comes to both.

Don't have either the truck or the rifle, but I'd likely borrow little bro's '94 Toyota and grab a Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum shortened to 16" and a 4" S&W 629.

Or, in lieu of above, a 6" 629, a pair of Asolos and the lab.

Good topic. I've attempted to make a career of this over the past 25 years or so.
Currently, an old Winchester 94 carbine and a Smith Model 24 for off the mountain where the bears live (do this daily), or Browning 1886 carbine w/ heavy 400 gr loads and Ruger 45 Colt w/ 325 gr loads for up on the Beartooths (where the bears do live). I'm 5 miles from the base of the mountain.

I live in the rockies so I use my F-250 4x4 to transport my ATV 4x4 to one of the dirt roads that go into the forest. A few miles in any direction.

Glock 27 and sometimes my Remington 700 SS 300 short mag, if hunting is in.

Lab that rides on the ATV or runs in front on me.

Lunch.

Sometimes a book. Just lean back on a tree and enjoy the wind in the trees.

Within five miles of the house I have seen deer, elk, bear, moutain lion, moose, big horn sheep, wolverine, wolf tracks and I am sure others I don't remember.

I moved here two years ago and everyday is a vacation.
