From reading these forums I understand that Savage rifles are the most accurate out of the box . How does the Model 110FP compare to the 12FV. Do both have heavy target barrels? There isn't that much difference in price.Which do you recommend for shooting off a bench rest. Not competive shooting but just recreactional shooting.

It's mostly finish.

I'd stay away from any "F" stocks though.....

12BVSS or a 10FP Choate or McMillan are much better.

110xx Is long action, blued finish (Model 10xx is short action)
12xx Is short action and is matte stainless steel (112xx is long action)

Tiny is right, the F model stocks suck, but they will do if they have to. They save you some money if your going to put a custom stock on it later.

Either way you go, you'll be getting a GREAT rifle.

So you're saying the only difference between the 12xx and the 110xx is12xx is stainless and the 110 is blued? Have I got this right?

the model 10 is a matte black finish. the 12 model is a blued model. the model 10 is a "tactical" model so it's not as dressy as the model 12.

SHould have read the post more carfully.

The 10 and the 12 are dimensionally the same - the 110 and the 112 are longer. In fact, there are only two basic actions as far as size goes - the 1x and the 11x...

The short actions are cambered for rounds like 223, 308, 243, 22-250 and such. The long ones are chambered in 30-06, belted magnums and so on.

I'm just in to expensive rifles, thats just me and it might be stupid, but if I we're going to buy a rifle to hunt or whatever and just wanted a good rifle cheap, I'd defineylt go savage. Any rifle made today will usually outshoot the shooter, unless there's something wrong with it. Savage definetly is the best bang for the buck, even though their prices seem to be going up these days. If they get any higher, they'll lose that spot.:D but for now, it's savage as best bang for the $$, and I don't even like em.:)

Sorry... I did have one mistake in my previous post, looks like ChrisTx caught it though. The model 12's are blued, but also available in fluted stainless. (That is the model I went with- 12FVSS)
