I have a Rockola M-1 Carbine that is stamped 8-43 on it's barrell. Why is it that every time I take it to the range or the gunsmith (to have the ejector replaced) everyone wants to buy it and a premium price? I have another by Underwood that is stamped 8-43 (coincidence) that is not as sought after? Can anyone explain? As for their condition, on a scale of 1 to 10, they are both a 9.

Rockola's are the most desirable because they are the rarest.

Check out this link on production #'s: http://www.fulton-armory.com/M1Carbine.htm

Rockola is pretty rare. They were a Jukebox company at heart IIRC.

I have a .30 carbine. Mine is from one of the high volume producers also. Looks good, shoots good, but not the high value of the Rockola's or Winchester's. :(
Mark. ps: I think even Singer (sewing machines) made some carbines.

No, Singer did not make carbines.

There was an estate auction here not long ago and a WWII Carbine made by GM was sold for $450. I was told it was in pristine condition. I knew I should've went.

Singer only dabbled in the 1911 producing only 500 for samples.

Actually Irwin Pedersons are the rarest IIRC

The only mixed part guns that I saw imported that was seemingly valuable was one with an Irwin Pedersen receiver. It was selling for high 3 or low 4 figure price when Blue Sky imports were 150$. It was not even in great shape. Maybe a Winchester receiver mixed parts gun will bring more, but the others don't make much difference when all the parts are mixed, in my recollection. Now if it is 100% correct, the prices should go up as the rarity increases.
