CZ 82

I'm thinking about purchasing a CZ 82 in 9x18 makarov. I found it at a local gun shop for 150.00. It comes with only one mag and the finish is wearing off. Seems to work good, smooth mag release, slide, hammer, etc. How much do extra mags cost? Is this worth it?

Way worth it!! It really is a $500 pistol going for around $200. That is an outstanding deal!

Do a function check. The sears wear on these guns. Two other weak spots are the mag release, that though ingenious, also wears easily, and the spring on the slide catch is notorious for falling out. If all is good, then that's a good price.

Great price for great gun. Wouldn't go as far as 500.00 gun, but still way more than that 150.00 you are getting it for.
Mags can be had online for as low as 24.00, but more common is range around 30 bucks.
Another advantage of CZ82 ( and PM - real makarovs ) is that they can handle and shoot comfortably hot SD loading that would beat other guns (PA63, P64) to death.
And don't be alarmed when you don't see a rifling in barrel, CZ82 have true polygonal rifling, it does looks like smooth barrel...

Ok how do I check the sear on the CZ 82? Everything else works fine. The mag drops freely without hanging up. I looked at another one in different gun shop, but the guy wanted too much and the mag would not drop freely.
I'm gonna jump on this one. By the way which is the best ammo to shoot in this pistol for self defense? Does it shoot hollow points without failing to feed? My Bulgarian Makarov will not reliably feed hollow points, but shoots fmj without a failure.

Great little CZ!... Have had mine over a year now and love it. Flawless shoot, very accurate and put together real well! For around $200 it's a great pistola.

You can test it by doing the following:

0. Make sure that the pistol is completely unloaded
1. Verify that it is unloaded and that the mag is removed.
2. Cock the hammer.
3. Pull the trigger and hold it back ... do not let the trigger reset.
4. Rack the slide as though it had fired.
5. Check to see that the hammer doesn't follow the slide down.

If the hammer stays cocked, you are good to go. If the hammer follows, it is only a $13 fix and the $150 price is still a bargain ... BUT ... if the hammer follows, that $13 part requires that you take the pistol down to a point where there are very few parts still connected there are plenty of tutorials online to help you detail strip this little bugger, but I can say from experience that it does require some patience.

These are great little guns. Fun to shoot. I use Silver Bear in mine.

Way worth it. More concerning is the lack of reliability from you Mak! What's up with that?

$383 + free shipping, either at JetGuns or Buds

82 and 83 are both excellent

Don't know what's wrong with the Bulgy Mak. It just doesn't like hollow point ammo.

Thanks for the info on the CZ 82. Has anyone had problems with one?

Price is a steal if you ask me if it's in good condition. I love mine enough to have it refinished and will be using it as one of my CCWs.

If you read between the lines on my previous post, you'd surmise that I had to replace the sear on one where the hammer would follow the slide down. Other than that, they seem to be quite reliable and the ones I have shot had no problems digesting JHP ammo.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second at that price for one in good shape. Just get it. If you wait much longer, someone else will probably end your decision process for you.

Love mine

Very little recoil. Easy to take down and clean. But ammo is a pain to get locally.

The finish on it is in really bad shape. You can see where it has totally flaked off and the metal was exposed. It looks like someone tried to put a black finish back on it to cover the exposed metal. Has anyone ever seen this?

The finish on the surplus guns often looks terrible. It's a crappy painted finish that flakes badly. Just look on Gunbroker and you'll see how common this is. A lot of people get their CZ 82s refinished. Functionally, the gun is likely fine.

The CZ 82 & 83 are the same guns, just one is 9x18 and the other is 9x17. As far as I know you can not buy a 82 new in the US, so I used the 83 as a reference point. My point is that the gun normally goes for $400 or around there ($500 was obviously a little high), and to pick a pistol up for half, or in this case less than half... Is a great deal. ymmv!

First of all, I do agree 150.00 for CZ82 is great deal. Again. It really is.

Now, CZ82 and CZ83 are TWO different guns.
CZ82 ( actually, it is VZ82 not CZ82) is military contracted gun - and all that military require is for it to work, last and be cheap - and you can't buy it new anywhere. All CZ82 on the market are used, military surplus. Period.
CZ83 on the other hand, is gun manufactured for RETAIL market and as such there are differences ( some minor, some a little more obvious) but most importantly, you can buy it NIB ( and lose 25% of value the minute you walk out the door, before even shooting single round)
Compare those two price wise is silly and your point is not valid.
If you are interested, we can open new thread where I can explain the differences to you in detail ... or you can google it

That's not the full picture. The CZ83 was produced in three calibers, .380, .32 and 9mm Mak. The surplus CZ82s are all in 9mm Mak. It is therefore possible to get a CZ83 in the Mak round. It would be more money than a used military trade-in gun obviously, but some folks may prefer to have the nicer finish and other minor changes.
