Exporting magazines ?
Hi
Can anyone give me some advice ? I live in the UK and own a Sig 9mm Are normal members of the public allowed to ship magazines out of the US to the UK ? I know it is legal for me to accept them as I have the pistol on my firearms licence, I just don't know if it is legal for you guys to ship them. Thanks Brian |

Gun laws in the U.K. are extremely restrictive.
I am sure you have to register the magazine as coming into the U.K. and that it you getting it would have to comply with all local and 'federal' laws where the magazine is sent to. Exporting anything handgun or firearm related to countries with aggressive firearms regulations mean you have to check with the legal authorities where you live and ask them or a lawyer-not on a website. Get this wrong and you are in trouble as well as the guy that just thought he was sending you an extra magazine he never used anyway. Heck, even in America now,if you send someone a fifteen round magazine into a locality where they only allow ten rounds simply because you did'nt know-that does'nt make it any less a crime. Find someone in the legal profession where you are at that knows about the laws and can advise you properly. |

It's easy to run afoul of export restrictions when shipping gun parts or accessories overseas.
This link suggests that exporting some magazines from the U.S. may be illegal. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Foreign.aspx

I bought 5 glock magazines, 2 used for G22, 1 KCI for G19 and 2 KCI for G17, and 3 +2 for glock magazines. I sent to my son in latin america, the country is not in the banned list.
The US Customs & Border Protection "seized" them ![]() ![]() Was I really exporting illegal war materials? |

"Seized -because the required licenses were not included in the shipment nor was the Automated Export System Property updated."
1.Apparently,to move these magazines across country borders you needed a authorized license of some kind and 2. U.S.Customs found these magazines in packaging that did not say gun magazines were in the packaging. Realistically, you might send them a letter to find out what you have to do to properly mail those magazines out or you might just say forget it. It reads to me like you need to treat those magazines just like we have to treat handguns shipped across state lines. Like you have to have a licensed exporter in this country send them-in packages with paperwork marked as gun magazines- to another licensed export/importer in the country where your son lives and have him pick them up by signing for them. As far as the confiscated magazines go,you might ask them to send them back to a FFL dealer near you that can verify you are the person picking them up but realistically,I'd be surprised if you get them back. The sheer volume of property they deal with and move kind of makes that a slim hope but you never know. Another aspect of this is once you verify that you are definitely the person that tried to move these magazines this way ( even by mistake) is that possibly the Customs department can possibly charge and fine for trying to send them out of the country for the two listed reasons. Why would'nt the Customs agency already not just go ahead and do that? Simple, right now it's only a several hundred dollar fine they might slam you with and it is'nt worth charging you with it by sending someone to your house to check-that just makes no money sense for 5 Glock mags. But send them a letter confirming you sent the mags the way you did and you just confirmed you broke the law in the two described ways. Then a letter comes your way stating-"We will be glad to send you back your mags when you pay the penalty for not obeying the two laws-the penalty is X hundred dollars and X cents." "We look forward to your check, please make sure you put the violation codes on the check and then we will send you your mags in approximately ninety days.Thank You" Might not happen like that but you never know with goverment regulations. Best bet,I think is to simply let the hundred and twenty dollars worth of headache go and if you are determined to send your son these-go through a FFL dealer. They definitely can find out what you have to do. But expect your shipping costs to be much higher. -I'm just an internet poster to.Not your lawyer. So I'm not legally responsible for what I just told you in any way.-B.N.Real |
