Sear engagement adjustment?

My Remington 798 (rebranded Interarms Mark X) has a fully adjustable trigger. Two of the adjustments are self-explanatory, being weight-of-pull and back lash adjustments.

The third is a sear engagement adjustment. Parsed words aside, what does this do?

The sear engagement adjusts how far under the sear the nose of the trigger can travel. On the Zastava actions, the sear and trigger are hardened steel, so you can adjust this fairly shallow and still have a safe rifle, but I typically adjust them to have about .010"-.012" of engagement just to be safe. Also make sure there is enough overtravel so the sear can clear the nose of the trigger, otherwise the sear will hang up when you fire.

Thanks, Scorch. What practical effect does this adjustment have?

Sear engagement affects trigger travel or "creep" before the sear releases.
