My understanding is that commercial ammo generally uses powders which are not available to reloaders.

.223 reload powder
Good afternoon. My match rifle likes Reloader 15 powder. 1-7 twist barrel. With 24.5 grains behind a 75 grain, a 77 grain, or an 80 grain bullet gives X-ring accuracy at 200, 300, and 600 yards. Jeff Bartlett at www.GIBrass.com also has some 4895 that costs $100 for an 8 pound container. It is my understanding that he used it to win the Kentucky State High Power championship last year. I have had great luck with VV N140, also, but it is $$$ and hard to find locally. Best of luck to you. DennyMac

I have contacted Hornady about some 308 TAP loads. Indeed they did inform me that they use a powder that is unavailable to the public. He told me the closest thing to it ( and I have since forgotten what it was) but I know it was a Vihtavouri of some flavor.

As with all factory loaded ammo, they use non-canister grades of powder for their offerings. Read that as unobtainium type powder. Now, if you are patient and look at using using TAC/RL15/Varget/N140/N150
