Yesterday, my wife was running a kirby vacuum (Yes I fell for the pitch)
on the carpet near my reloading bench

A loose primer had somehow gotten in the carpet... and you guessed it....

Went BANG!

Scared the dickens out of her.......

I would never thought that could happen in a thousand years....

Thankfully I was only one! I guess that's why they tell you not to store primers loose as they can mass detonate.

Yep, pretty common. You need to get one of those plastic runners for desk chairs in carpeted offices, that will solve that problem, if you can't really fix it by putting down hardwood or tile.

I've been running my second-hand Kirby for 32 years !

Don't use carpet in reloading area, or at least use a throw rug you can take outside and shake out.

For what you pay for a Kirby vacuum, they should be able to take a direct center mass it with a finished reload let alone sucking up a loose primer. LOL!

The kirby was 4 times more than the $300 vacuums that I normally buy, and replace every 4 years or so.

What sold me was the sales guy ran my current vacuum 10 times over one spot, and then ran the Kirby one swipe

There was a ton of gunk that came up...... sold!

Still amazed that it had enough oomf to set off a primer.

Escpecially when I sometimes dont seat the primer deep enough and I get light strikes.

Oh well......maybe time to get a flat peice to cover the carpet around the bench

I used to do reloading on the kitchen counter.
Until my better half found a live primer in the disposal - the hard way.
No telling where those little trouble makers can wind up going.

Yep it is a real surprise when they fire off in the vacuum.
My gun room is carpeted with office style carpet.
Most times I see them and pick them up but every now and then I miss one and they get vacuumed up.
Small rifle and small pistol primers are loud but magnum primers and large rifle get your attention.
Back when I was a kid (so,so long ago) I reloaded in the garage.
I spilled some primers and some got lodged in the soles of my shoes.
They found there way into the house and my mom vacuumed one up and it went off.

From that day on I took my shoes off before coming in the house if I had been at the loading bench.
Wasn't going to go through another tirade from my mom about primers in the carpet.
