What does Hoppe's #9 smell like?

Incredible clueless newbie question, I know.

Here's why I'm asking. I bought a Remington gun cleaning kit when I got my first gun a couple of months ago. The little bottle of Bore Brite is about to run out. I kind of like the smell, and was just wondering if Hoppe's #9 smells pleasant or unpleasant to most people here.

Yes, I know I could go to a shop and open a bottle, but some might see this as strange behavior

Thanx,

I think they should make a cologne based on it.

On this note, does anybody else think that CLP has a very strong carrot-y smell?

My wife hates the smell. I have to take the #9 soaked patched right outside when I'm done.

HOPPE's #9

It smells like the happiest of memories as a boy and of spending time with my "little guy" as he learned the joy of firearms and shooting. What does #9 smell like? An America that is almost vanished.

The smarta## in me says that it smells like SOLVENT I've gone back and forth from Hoppe's and MPro 7 for about a year now. Someone, my guns aren't clean until they've been wiped down w/ the Hoppes
To me, it smells like I've been having fun!

The wife says from time to time that if she wants my full undivided attention she will have to put some behind her ears and walk by me. Would it work? You bet! I can't put a finger on what it reminds me of but I sure do love tha #9 smell!

I read somewhere, can't remember where but it seemed reasonably authoritative at the time, that it was banana oil or banana extract or some such banana-related thing that gave it the distinctive smell.
