What does Hoppe's #9 smell like?
Incredible clueless newbie question, I know.
Here's why I'm asking. I bought a Remington gun cleaning kit when I got my first gun a couple of months ago. The little bottle of Bore Brite is about to run out. I kind of like the smell, and was just wondering if Hoppe's #9 smells pleasant or unpleasant to most people here. Yes, I know I could go to a shop and open a bottle, but some might see this as strange behavior Thanx, - pdmoderator

On this note, does anybody else think that CLP has a very strong carrot-y smell?

HOPPE's #9
It smells like the happiest of memories as a boy and of spending time with my "little guy" as he learned the joy of firearms and shooting. What does #9 smell like? An America that is almost vanished.

The smarta## in me says that it smells like SOLVENT I've gone back and forth from Hoppe's and MPro 7 for about a year now. Someone, my guns aren't clean until they've been wiped down w/ the Hoppes
To me, it smells like I've been having fun! |

On a stray Saturday night does anybody just douse yourself with this stuff and then get your wife to swab, brush and oil you like a dirty, dirty gun? Anybody? Course me neither.

The wife says from time to time that if she wants my full undivided attention she will have to put some behind her ears and walk by me. Would it work? You bet! I can't put a finger on what it reminds me of but I sure do love tha #9 smell!

I read somewhere, can't remember where but it seemed reasonably authoritative at the time, that it was banana oil or banana extract or some such banana-related thing that gave it the distinctive smell.
