Benelli and Beretta Recoil Operated Shotguns

I have a Beretta 1201 FP which is described as short recoil action. The short recoil systems I have seen in the past have the bbl recoiling a distance shorter than the length of a loaded round, hence are termed short recoil. On the Beretta, the bbl is fixed. So what in the heck recoils?

The Benelli looks to be the same action with minor cosmetic differences.

BTW, the Beretta short recoil shotgun is not a fun gun to shoot as it recoils harder for a given load than most other shotguns. Three rounds of skeet and I'm done!

Thanks for any enlightenment you can give!

Read this first http://www.benelliusa.com/about_benelli/

Post if you still have any questions.

BTW, I have a 1201FP. It kicks, but no worse than an 870 or fixed breech shotgun of similar weight. Proper form and stance can do much to mitigate the recoil, which allows you to take advantage of the designs extremely fast cyclic rate.

Thanks very much. The simple things usually work the best. Upon firing, the bolt carrier stays still compressing the heavy spring which pops it back after the moment of heaviest recoil unlocking the bolt head and allowing the cartridge to blow it back is how I read it.

I'm glad that somebody came up with something new. Now, to work on my form and stance... thanks, again!
