Hi Viz FO front sight is good.

Williams Fire Sight kit for GP100 is good.

The Ruger red-ramped front sight for the GP100 is good.

These are the ones I have tried.

Personally, I like and use the Meprolight night sights for everything now.

I used to use a one ragged hole rear aperture sight coupled with a ruger metal with red insert front sight and really ennoyed the set up, as long as I never holstered the gun due to the rear sight. I also just couldn't live with the standard rear sight's inability to stay put with any serious use.

If you want the end all be all toughest sights you can get then Bowen Classic Arms rough country sights are what you should get.

I have the Hi Viz fiber optics on mine. They may not necessarily be the best, but they're inexpensive, easy to install and are big improvement over the stock sights.

I like the looks of the sights on the Ruger GP100 Match Champion. Maybe can get them from Ruger.

I have the Hi Viz fiber optic front sight on mine. The FO is offcenter. I am not impressed with their precision, but the price is right.

I would either:

1) Keep the rear sight and replace the front sight with an XS Sight (small size). The Mepros only come in a front and rear set.
2) Replace the sights with Meprolight night sights.

I would recommend a gold bead front but have yet to find one online.

UPDATE: Bowen Classic Arms has their Rough Country sights and you can get a gold bead.

This is a little misleading. Bowen sells blank front sights for the GP100 that you can then have a gunsmith (or you yourself) install a gold bead in, but not a premade gold bead front sight. It might be possible to have them (bowen) do this for you, but you would have to call them and see as it is not a standard part that they offer.


Also, to the OP and anyone else looking for a Gold Bead front sight. If you are lucky enough to find the old redhawk gold bead front sight (no longer produced by ruger) like I have been, it is much taller than the GP100's standard front sight. You will need to get a different/higher rear sight to compensate for it.

I guess Cylinder and Slide can build up a proper gold bead sight. I dislike the brass sights; I have one on an S&W and it is not bright enough.

I would say a fiber optic front combined with a Bowen rear with white outline would be about the best all around sight picture.

Fiber optic front on mine, I use it for a woods gun and it works good as long as theres some ambiant light. On a dedicated SD gun I would prefer tritium night sights even though I know the situation that I couldn't see a FO sight and could ID the target would be a rare occourance.

If you hold them side by side it is obviously larger than the factory sight, and it will not fit into the slot. After seeing this I googled it and found some reviews and sure enough, other people had the same problem. One guy said he machined the front sight to get it to fit in the gun and it worked fine after that. Forget that -- I find it insulting to pay over $100 for an item that arrives obviously non-functioning."

My Mepro front sight was a hair too long as well (something like .03" or less over).

It took my a grand total of 2 minutes to file it down to a perfect fit. One of the easiest fixes there are. I've had dovetail sights that were a LOT more problematic.

To me, it's a non issue.

To others (as witnessed in the quoted review (s)), it's the end of the world.

I have many of the aforementioned sights. I like the green hi-viz the best.
Williams fire sight is just okay
Big dot night sight on SP101 and LCR
Red insert is good
If a fixed sight model? I use neon orange finger nail polish-you should see the Wal-Mart associate look at me while I looked for the right color of orange

My Ruger GP (and Redhawk) front sights are the superior (but no longer available?) Millett orange-ramp front blades.
All my Rugers retain stock rear sights (without --so far-- issue).

This is where I'd start. You can buy it at Ruger.com. It's easy to install and makes a heck of a difference. Plus, your revolver will still look like a revolver should. Fiber optic sights just look wrong to me on a revolver.
