Mossberg 500AR ?

I have my dads mossberg 500AR. Pre-1968. So no serial number
Or at least I can't find one... I had several look also...nada
Any other serial number locations hidden ?

What does 'ar' mean ? It does have the engraved parts on the receiver mechanism Using older style 2 3/4. Shells

I know it is not a fancy gun, but I want to use it

No reason not to use it. I thought AR meant aluminum receiver, but I could be mistaken

All mossberg 500s and their derivatives have always had aluminum receivers. The "A" designates it as a 12 gauge. A "B" would be 16ga. "C" is 20ga. "E" is .410.

The "R" I believe designates it as a vent rib model.
