Does my German Shepherd count? He may not travel at 1100 fps, but he's plenty loud and those teeth penetrate surprisingly deep...

Otherwise, a S&W Model 586 .357 magnum with a 6" barrel. After that it became my M&P40, with a shotgun nearby.

HK USP 40 - I got it shortly after they first came out. Still in the nightstand every night.
Did have to shop for some ten round mags lately - being in NY state, the so-called - "SAFE-ACT" disapproves of the original 13 round magazines.

Browning HP 9mm that I got in 1970.
Still have it, but a Glock Model 29 has
replaced it for the nightstand duty.

First revover I ever bought, a S&W model 19-2 blue with a 4" tube. That was back in 1970. Nowadays it is a G-27.

My first was also my first handgun, a Taurus 82. It was followed shortly (a few months) by a Ruger KP89 and the two rotated.

Over the years, my rotation has included several autos and revolvers (backed up by a few long guns in the closet), but it has been mostly revolvers for home defense.

Glock 24, I didn't like having one in the chamber without a manual safety and didn't like that if the wife had to use it she would have to rack the slide.

I bought a S&W 4003 with safety and de-cocker and moved it into that role once it proved itself reliable. I like the features of this firearm for a night stand gun.

Have a great day!

July 1985 at the age of 21

My first night stand gun was the only handgun I owned for many years. It was a birthday present on my 21st birthday. It was a simple H&R 686 22 LR/22 Magnum. For 15 years it was my everything gun. It is not pretty but it has always been dependable. I kept it loaded with 22 Magnum ammo.
