Gauge, ball size, # of RB per lb - good reference

In doing some searching in regards to difference in weight between .310 and .311 RB as well as several old "bag molds" I ran across, I came across this excellent chart - may be that the link has been posted before (don't know) but for those getting started, it's an excellent reference.

Go to the home or index page as well - lots of other good information pertaining to cartridge as well

Many of the old (antique) bag molds will have a number stamped on them and a lot of folks don't know that it represents the number of balls per pound of lead. This chart makes it an easy way to figure out the mold size.
If a pair of '51 Navies were good enough for Billy Hickok, then a single Navy on my right hip is good enough for me . . . besides . . . I'm probably only half as good as he was anyways. Hiram's Rangers Badge #63

You can also cube the diameter of the ball and then multiply by 1503 to get the ball's weight in grains.

Example, what does a .433 round ball weigh?

.433 X .433 X .433 X 1503 = 122 grains
