500m 30-06 Load

Good evening, I have a winchester 670 in 30-06 that I would like to develop a 500m target load for. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good bullet/powder combination. I like IMR4064 as I have a decent amount of it and it works in most of my other guns but I'm not married to it. I was also thinking of using either a 168 or 175gr bullet, but I would love any suggestions. Thanks for your help.

57 grains of IMR 4350 with 168 grain Sierra HPBT Match. That's a max load so work up to it. Its an extremely accurate round out of my 26 inch barrels.

4064 is an excellent powder for .30-06. Since you've already got it, why not see what it's capable of with different bullets? The Sierra Match King and Lapua Scenar bullets are extremely well regarded by precision shooters.

If its bore is as oversize as other Win. 30 caliber ones, best accuracy will happen with bullets at least .3085" diameter. Sierra's are not fat enough.

I like Hornedy A-max. 150gn and up. Stick with your powder, it's good stuff. I use 4895 and 4350 myself.

I shoot 400yrds with my Remington made 03 using 155gr Matchking bullets and IMR-4895. I can shoot sub-moa all day long at 100yrds with this load. If it shoots well at 400 I don't see why it cant get it done at 500 and then some.

Garand match load data from the NRA. high charge data. lower charge data.

165/168 grain FMJ, HP or SP bullets 47.0 to 48.0 grains IMR 4094
173/175 grain FMJ or HPBT bullets 46.0 to 47.0 grains IMR 4064

These are middle of the range loads that meet the pressure needs of the M1.

I think they are a good starting place with the components you have on hand. As always look to Hodgdon's data for starting loads, and work up until accuracy presents itself, then stop.

Machine guns are awesome until you have to carry one.
