Shield 9mm Sights
So I got my own Shield 9 in last week, took it to the range on Wed and the 3rd magazine in the white dot on the front sight just popped right off! I was stunned. This is supposed to be a CCP and the 3 mag in this happens? I still finished my 100 rd 124gr +p test to see if the rounds would work but obviously couldn't judge accuracy very well. Called S&W and they told me I could paint it myself or send it in and they would get it back to me in a few weeks. I suggested they send me a new sight and I will get it installed. Guess the new sight should be here in like 5 days.
Anyone else have this happen? Disappointed to say the least! My wife's Shield has several hundred rounds thru it with no problem! |

Not that uncommon tbh, heard of it happening a bunch a few years ago when the M&Ps first came out.

Disappointing still.
Eventually I want night sights for it but I didn't think I would have to get them first range trip! |

Oh I;m not saying it's not disappointing, it is. Just saying this has been a problem before the Shield.

He said most likely the sight had oil or grease on it when they painted it so it hardened put didn't stick to the sight.

It happens with most guns that have white dot sights. S&W took care of you, though.

I would just paint the sights and call it a day.. not that it's not disappointing, but way better than malfunction which needs to be sent in for extensive period of time (and anguish).
Glad to hear S&W is taking care of it though.

I wouldn't have even wasted the time sending it back- some Testor's model paint in gloss white would fix it instantly and permanently.

Minor thing.
I will check my shield when it comes in (at least you got yours)! On every one of my new guns, my Dad would whip out a bottle of paint or whiteout and put it on the front site even if it was brand new and I didn't want it. - oh well, he was right though it works. |

Common and no big deal. But irritating I'm sure.
Best approach is a toothpick and some hobby paint. |

I had heard some reports of this happening before I got mine in Jan but so far after ~700 rounds all dots still intact. <knocking wood>

I did paint it but they're still sending me a new one. I didn't end up sending it to them. I'm sure night sights are in the future but this was a let down for sure.
My wife's Shield has been flawless though! |

Shield 9mm Sights
I guess I should have kept my mouth shut. Mine fell out at the range this weekend. I'll give white out a try until I upgrade the sights.

Call S&W and complain. They sent me a new front sight for free. Took about 5 days to get it and $10 to have it installed
