Norinco SKS. Opinions? Any help is appreciated.
Hey guys,
I am new to the forum and am currently looking in to getting my first "assault rifle". I found a Norinco Sks online for $600. It comes with a 30 round mag and a tapco adjustable stock. What do you guys think? Any info is appreciated. Thank you in advance. |

Seems a little steep on the price. I guess it's a supply & demand thing. Does it come with the original stock, gas tube and fixed mag? Right now it's around a $400 -$425 then the cost of the stock & mag may add $125-$150, but the original parts are important to have too with most collectors. As far as plastic The ATI stocks are better than the Tapco. IMO

That rifle looks pretty good even if it is a bit over priced. Personally I would only pay that much if it was all original, numbers matching and in pristine condition. If not original I start subtracting money from the asking price. By the way that's not an "assault rifle" it's a gas operated semi automatic rifle. Most gun people I know detest the term "assault rifle" since it's a term made up by the anti gun media.

The Chinese SKS's are my favorite. Especially the ones from Norinco. I think that price is too high however. You should be able to find one for the $450 range or lower. Things are starting to settle down now and the prices here are dropping rapidly on firearms. I would wait for a better deal.

dump the after market parts and stick with the stock magazine and original stock and you will have a better weapon by far

ok first of all, "assault rifle" is an incorrect term that perpetuates ignorance towards the shooting sports. 'semi auto rifle' will do just fine.
2. NORINCO stands for North China Industries Company. they only made SKS for a short period of time and they were made as sporting rifles for civilian use. a lot of people mark any Chinese SKS as norinco and most of the time it's wrong, not a fault on your part, it's on them. 3. the blade style bayonet on this particular SKS was only used on military SKS between 1956 and 1965, after that they came with a spike bayonet as did the norincos. 4. those rifles that take AK47 magazines were modified by century international arms and generally go for $400 and the bubba stock doesn't add any value so that particular SKS is about 50% overpriced.

I think passing is the way to go. You will find a much better deal if you just wait a while and keep your eyes open.

I would not buy it. In my opinion, the SKS is a far better weapon in its original configuration, with the fixed 10 round magazine and good stripper clips, it is an effective battle rifle.

I remember when Norinco SKSs sold for $90 in the '90s, which made them mega bargains.
But $600? The world hasn't come to an end just yet. Skip it.

Hmmm! Did they spray paint the steel ? For that matter, I've never seen a Tapco stock offered in that color either.

I'd definitely say it was spray painted. You can see where the paint is chipping off where the stripper clip feeder on the bolt carrier rides over the receiver when forward.
