TC Icon 243

I just got an icon (field grade walnut stock) for $525 shipped from Budsgunshop... I took it to the range on thursday and it is amazing!

Just as some background, I have been practicing with an airgun for the past couple years, but this is my first time owning or shooting a REAL rifle. I did a lot of research and decided on the icon in 243... At the same time as my rifle purchase, I also got the lee reloading challenger kit. For a scope, I just threw a centerpointe 4-16 i picked up at walmart a couple years ago for one of my air guns. Took it to the range an sighted it in at 100 yds, then fired off these 3-shot and 5-shot groups:

you can see my flier where I pulled the shot

then I adjusted the scope ~6 clicks high and fired these three groups at 200yds...

That is an average of .875MOA @ 200 yds! The accuracy of this gun is everything I hoped it would be. Also, for those interested, here is my load data...

#1530 .243" 85 gr. HPBT
C.O.A.L. 2.650"
37.8gr IMR-4320

Mind you, this was my first time out with a powder burner rifle, and my first hand loads EVER! I only hope to see improvement from here, and I'd say that the Thompson Center Icon is a keeper! and to anyone who is on the edge, my experience says it is a VERY accurate and quite beautiful gun!

Also noteworthy... I was shooting pretty slow (23 rds in about 2 hrs) but it was a warm sunny February day in Florida and the gun never got too hot to touch.

Thanks liam, I love the rifle. Just loaded up 80 rounds for it last night so I can't wait to get back to the range.

By the way, how does the 7mm kick? The recoil on the 243 is nothing.

The icon in the 7mm rem mag doesn't kick bad at all I think it's because of weight of rifle (over ten pounds with optics ,rings ,& loaded)and the shape of the stock and also the great pachmayr decelerator recoil pad even the .338 win mag doesn't kick bad in the icon rifle

Congrats on the new rifle. Been a big fan of the Icons, have 2 weathershields. Some folks on other forums say they may no longer be in production. If that's the case, that's a crying shame.

Another Icon Fan

I'm a new forum member and owner of two TC Icons, one is 243 and a 7mm-08, glad to see that there are other devotees on the board. Congratulations on your purchase. I sure do enjoy mine.
