anyone ID some 7.62 x 54?

found a bunch (big bunch) of old 7.62 with 10 and 78 on the head stamp

its 7.62x54 and it has red/purple between the bullet and neck of the casing

its loose in the old sardine can ammo tins from something a lot bigger than 7.62 (i think 20mm)

its been around a while probably but no worse than some of the other stuff i have been using

im going to guess the 78 is the date of mfg ?

anyone here a eastern bloc ammo guru?

10 is the arsenal code for Bulgaria.

If the red/purple is at the neck of the case where the bullet is inserted, it's just weather proofing sealant.
That would be light (~147 grain) ball ammunition.

Red/purple on the bullet tip is something else entirely.

10 is the code for Kazanlak Bulgaria for ammunition made after 1946. since yours has a 78 this is where it was made. Now if you run across some with 10 - 46 or earlier it came from the Russian State Arsenal. That factory ceased operations in 1946
