  1. Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi. The assistant principal got his gun from his car, and he confronted and stopped the shooter.

  2. Appalachian School of Law shooting. However, in that case the students who got their guns from their cars also happened to be LEOs.

  3. Aurora, CO church shooting, April, 2012. The fellow who stopped it was an off duty police officer.
Of course a primary reason why more rampage shootings aren't stopped by a potential victim with a gun is that rampage shooters seem to be pretty good about choosing places in which they won't find any potential victims with a gun.
"It is long been a principle of ours that one is no more armed because he has possession of a firearm than he is a musician because he owns a piano. There is no point in having a gun if you are not capable of using it skillfully." -- Jeff Cooper

Give you a hint about calling 9/11 to describe you are armed in the middle of a fire fight.

The police on the scene will likely get a call that one of the guys with a gun is YOU.

It probably won't be transmitted that you are a hero. Listen to some tapes of miscommunication sometime.
