Slowly but surely I am getting this narrowed down. I am looking for a side by side, 12 gauge, that will shoot slugs, and steel shot, with decent accuracy. It has to have only one trigger, and somewhat reasonably priced. The American Arms Gentry seems like a decent gun. Anybody out there want to comment on it. I know I am probably beginning to bug some people with all these questions about the side by side, and I appologize, just trying to get as many opinions as I can. Thanks in advance for your help.

That's funny. I was formulating the exact same question, went to search before asking and found your post from a few hours ago I don't know if you've handled one yet. The ones I've seen have been ok in fit and finish (better than the EAA and Stoeger SxSs), lock up ok. I kept grilling the guy at the gun store about it, all he knew is they sell them now and then and have no complaints.
Consider this a second request for information on the American Arms Gentry line! Would I be correct in assuming it's probably an acceptable double for light use, and may not last long enough to be passed down through the generations?

One guy I know slightly has an older one of these in 10 gauge. Outside of the kick, no complaints.
The one I looked at a while back, IIRC, was similar to the Savage 311. These are often found used for less than $300, and have a good rep for durability. Of course, you know that slugs will hardly ever print into the same place from both bbls, right? IMO, the AA stuff is good light duty equipment, not for extended clay shooting, but fine for field and wood. |
