Question about the remmington 1911-R1

I just recently purchased the R1 and have not had the chance to shoot it yet. I did disassemble it to clean it and when I was putting the slide stop back in it seemed like I had to put a lot of pressure to lock it back in place. Is that normal?...Thanx!!

That's not necessarily abnormal. This may vary some from gun to gun. It will get a little easier to lock back in place after you field strip and reassemble a few time.

Sounds like he may have not pushed the slide lock plunger back. I have yet to encounter a slide lock that is a bear to push in new or not clean or dirty.

On G.I. pistols, made to spec, it's unusual. On a new production gun, made to who-knows-what specs, it's very common. The slide stop should cam the plunger back into the tube, merely by pressing inward on the slide stop, but if the plunger protrudes too far from the tube, either because the tube is too short, or the plunger too long, pressing inward on the slide stop has the effect of trying to bend the plunger. Most people resort to some sort of tool to push the plunger in so the slide stop will pass. Some clever guy has cut a groove in his slide stop, replacing the designed-in camming action on guns that aren't quite to spec.
