Question about the Model 87 Cheetah,,,

I own a Beretta 87 Cheetah which I bought brand new 2 years ago.

It has the older style round trigger guard,,,
All other new Cheetahs have the newer combat style trigger guard.

I have always been curious as to why they never upgraded the 87 in that manner.

Anyone ever read anything about this small difference in style?

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it,,,
It's a perfect match my Model 85BB this way.

Just curious is all.

And you notice it has a safety instead of a decocker like the current crop of centerfire Berettas, don't you?

It is probably too low production for them to bother with bringing the .22 into line with the .380.

Be thankful for small favors.

Perhaps mall ninjas don't shoot .22?

I never quite understood the need for "combat style" trigger guards. Especially on the 81 series, it really does detract from the elegance of the piece.

Believe me I am thankful for the small favor,,,

I bought the Model 87 first,,,
The Evil Pawn Shop Guy ordered it in for me.

Later (only a few weeks) he took in pawn the Model 85BB I now own.

Coincidence? I think not.

But I do love owning exact matching firearms in rimfire & centerfire.

I guess my confusion was in thinking the frames for the Model 87 and the other models are identical to each other.

I think the Cheetah series is the best line of handguns Beretta makes. Still high quality, still old school.

Well, they WERE, to start with. But Beretta "modernized" the centerfires with hook trigger guard and decocker in line with the 92.

I wasn't clear about frame sizes,,,

What I should have said was,,,
I thought the frames were interchangeable.

The reason is I had a gunsmith tell me that,,,
You could swap internals and the slide onto either frame.

He said if I wanted to,,,
I could buy a newer "FS" frame,,,
And swap my model 87 innards & frame onto it.

Again, not that I would ever do it,,,
But if it's true I find it puzzling that Beretta,,,
Would keep making the two different frame styles.

I would have thought that using one frame style for all of their Cheetah pistols,,,
Would make more sense from a cost of manufacturing standpoint.

Unless of course the smith was in error.
