20 MOA Scope Base

Needing a 20 MOA base for my Savage rifle for competition shooting but what are the differences in the companys that make them? EGW $43 vs Weaver $32 or pay 4x more for a Ferrel $117

The rifle is a competition rifle, not a tactical rifle, so is there a real benefit of paying a ton of money more for a base

I don't think so. I have one from Mo's that was not very expensive and it does its job of holding the scope on the rifle with a little rake. It is hard to see how more money would make it do better.

I'd get the EGW.

I have seen the EGW ads in ShotGunNews, I may try one soon..
Personally, My choice is a 20 MOA Badger base and Warne Rings.

went with the EGW base and the Burris Sig Zee rings. Coating on the base seems very easy to scratch though

On another forum in 2009 [not as good at keeping ME around as this forum] the guy who owns EGW was asked why his mounts are so cheap compared to some other brands.

Lets see

We use 4 American made Fadal Machining centers.
Our screws are made in Conn. They are cold rolled from 4037
We tumble and blast them in house. They are Anodized in Reading Pa.
Our extrusion comes from Texas. This week we took delivery of our 8th order of 1000# of rail. That's about 30,000 mounts to you and me.
Our cutters are all ground in Pottstown Pa. Mostly Solid carbide.
Not sure what is cheap about our set up that you would infer that?
We don't need to put our kids through College with every mount if that is what you are saying?

We do make the Montana Short and Long action.

thanks

I have lots of farrell scope mounts that I got from Midway for $20 in 2002.
They are steel and very heavy.
I have lots of EGW, just got more yesterday. They are light weight Aluminium and get the job done.
I will pay $10/ ounce to make my hunting rifles lighter.
