Nikon M223 mount for AR, incline or level?

I'm looking for feedback on using the M223 mount for my new RRA AR. For the model 743 mount, it has the built in incline for long distance shooting. What is long distance? What have you, that use this mount, found to be your experience, which model should I get? I live in the northern MN, so not real long distance on average, but it would be fun out in the Dakotas some day. How far will the level model shoot, 3-400 yards? Thanks for the replys.

The M223XR mount has 20moa built in. Typical 5.56 has 20" drop at 400yds +/-. At 500yds the drop can be 60"+/-.

If you want to shoot past 500yds a 20moa raiser is pretty much need to have, depending on the internal travel of your scope. As the scope nears the end of the vertical travel it looses horizontal travel. Using a raiser keeps the scope closer to the mechanical center at longer ranges.

Very good answer!!!
We use angled bases and scopes with 75-105 MOA adjustment to reach 1000 yards, 1 mile, or 1.5 miles with our 50BMG target rifles.
Angle bases do exactly like he says above - helps to keep scopes centered in adjustment- or allow for extreme range adjustment - 100 yards to 1760 yards with a 20 minute base.

Not necessary unless you want to ZERO or adjust your crosshairs for extended distances. My .223's will shoot 500 yards w/o the angled base but I don't have any paper that needs killed and animals (other than rodents) require more umph than the .223 delivers.

Exactly. You can use hold over, this works very well with mil-dot scopes. Some days I turn the knobs more than others, depends on what scope I'm using and how far I'm shooting. I seldom adjust for windage, always adjust hold. It changes so much that you would turning knobs constantly.

You may not need it, but at the same time it will not cause a problem. It simply will take from your down adjustment and give you more up adjustment if you do need it. Vary rarely do scopes need much of there down adjustment anyway.

Great answer's Palm and Mad. For 3-400 yard's you wouldn't need the 20 MOA but if you do go to the Dakota's and happen to see a yote at 550 it would be nice to dispatch the deer eater. I use the XR on allmy AR's just because more is better in my book.

I think you'll be quite happy with it sitting on top of your RRA rifle.

Unless you are wanting to go extreme distances, the RRA high Rise scope mount is a great mount for way less money. Just a thought.
