fabrique nationale d'armes de guerre herstal belgique shotgun
My father recently passed away and I inherited his fabrique nationale d'armes de guerre herstal belgique Browning Automatic 16 gauge shotgun. The serial number says FN 49348. He thought his brother bought it in 1932. I can remember him saying is didn't work and couldn't be repaired although it looks in excellent condition. Can someone one tell me a little more about this gun and where I would start to see about getting it in operational condition again. I live in San Antonio, TX
Thanks |

One of the classic designs and well made. I doubt it's not fixable.
Any decent smith should be able to go over it and find out what's wrong. NIB, someplace between $400 and $800, depending on condition, gauge, version, choke, and how good the wood looks. HTH.... |

Depending on what is wrong, it could be a very simple fix. Have a GUNSMITH look at it - not some big box store parts replacer - you'll be glad you did

good point
yes definitely bring it to a gunsmith. do it once and correctly the first time. it deserves the time or for the right person to inspect it

Thanks for the information. Not being a gun owner, how do I go about finding a good reputable gunsmith?

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your Dad.
FWIW, since you've inherited a gun, now you ARE a gun owner. . Google: "gunsmith locator". Also, IIRC there's gunsmith referrals listed at both www.brownells.com and www.midwayUSA.com . |

Living in San Antonio, TX, there must be plenty of gunsmiths in your area. One would be:
Hillco Gunsmith Jim Grier Boerne, TX 830-431-1880 [email protected] I would also be leary of a local gun store that may be more interested in selling you another gun than fixing your own. |

The two Browning gunsmiths that come to mind are Midwest Gun Works and Art's Gun shop. They both have web sites and work on the Borwning A-5 shotguns. They are both known nation wide for great work.

Just checked out Art's Gun Shop website. They have an introduction video and the first gun they talk about is the very same one I have inherited. How's that for a coincidence.
