New Trigger for Remington 700 VTR .308
I am looking to get a new trigger for my 700, and I am wondering if anyone has a particular one they like. I am going to order the Trigger and my gunsmith will install it but i know i want something in the 1.5-2 pound pull range. I have one of the first VTRs so it doenst have the X-Mark Pro trigger, and i am looking for an upgrade.
The only brand i know of is Timney, and thats all i have heard about. i have tried adjusting the screw under the trigger but now it has a creep in the pull. What would be the best trigger to get for my 700? It is my Primary Hunting Rifle, and I target shoot it quite a bit also, so i would prefer something in the 1.5-2 pound range. |

I love the Timney trigger I installed in my Weatherby Vanguard.
I ordered it from Brownells' set at 2.5 pounds and it came perfectly set with zero creep. |

Rem 700 trigger
Timney & shilen make excellent triggers for this rifle, especially those which will be used for general purpose shooting.
However, the old style original "walker fire control trigger" used from 1948 to 2000, is awesome, if it is properly polished internally & the pull weight, creep, & over-travel adjustments are adjusted correctly. 2.0 pounds with no creep & no over-travel on factory triggers, has been common for the triggers i have worked on. There are literally dozens of triggers for the Rem 700. Pick one.
I recommend Timney (about $100) or Jewell (about $150). Timney triggers are pretty nice and a tremendous improvement over factory. Jewell triggers are very nice. Most people will never buy a better trigger for their rifle. I would buy and install an aftermarket trigger before messing with reworking the factory trigger. Not that it cannot be a great trigger, rather that by the time you get it reorked and adjusted you will be so far into it money and time wise that you could buy a better trigger and install it.
