Remchoke.

Hello all,

I recently purchased a new-to-me 28'' barrel for my Remington 870 super magnum. It came with a remchoke that is marked "turkey super full" and sticks out of the barrel about an inch.

I want to take my dad out and bust some clays maybe once a month ( so not too regularly). Is this choke going to be way to full for skeet shooting?

I think it would probably be too tight for a few beginners. Maybe i'll just bite the bullet and pick up an IC or modified.

For the game called skeet, they make a skeet choke - .005 constriction in a typical 12 gauge. Other clay target games, like trap, 5-stand and sporting clays, typically use different constrictions due to the type and distance of the target.

That turkey choke may not pattern well - have you tried it with your load? Some extra-tight chokes wind up with a blown pattern that is more doughnut shaped, so a trip to the pattern board/plate is a wise move.

I'm pretty sure we are going to play actual skeet. I haven't gotten to pattern this choke tube yet (barrel came in today).

You'll almost certainly be happier with a plain old RemChoke Skeet 1 or ImpCyl tube... usually readily available for less than twenty bucks in lots of sporting goods outlets.

But if you do hit a claybird with that Turkey choke, you'll atomize it...

DO NOT shoot the gun without a tube. The gun will function with the tube you have but it will be much easier to hit moving targets with a more open choke. The turkey tube is designed to keep the tightest posible pattern while shooting at a stationary target. Do not use steel shot in the tighter tubes either. Most any gunshop will have another tube for around $20.

Yes. They are fine threads and will be fouled and damaged with powder and lead residue and plastic from the waddings.

Well, 12.00 later (had something to return) I am now the proud owner of an IC choke.

A barrel without a choke is pretty thin on the end. Besides boogering up the threads it could split and send metal flying

. Either one not good.
