this thread was initially about the BPS - 590 comparison, not the cheaper (for a reason) 500
Point conceded. I still think my statements are valid though.

The Mossberg 590A1 has worked just fine for the US Military I believe it will be fine for little old me.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will sit on a boat and drink beer all day.

Thanks -

To everybody who commented. I appreciate all of your input regarding the BPS High Capacity and the Mossberg 590. I know what I need to know to make the choice, when I get the chance.

Or, just throwing this out there for thought. Why buy a "tactical shotgun" when a shortish bbl hunting shotgun will protect the homestead every bit as good but has interchangeable choke tubes and can be used for so much more? I don't have anything against evil black guns mind you, I just think of a shotgun as a "Jack of many trades" type weapon and would never buy a specialty tacticool fixed choke model unless I were some sort of a pro-door-kicker-dude. Not that a fixed choke shotgun can't hunt, it just isn't as versatile. Also, I'm not sure about the 590 but if you want to use slugs make sure it doesn't have an "overbored bbl" like the Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag does (been there).
