Hog hunting with a 45 colt

Ok, so I just got my dad a lever action 45 colt for his b-day. I'm thinking I might plan a hunt for us at the beginning of the year and wanted to see what you guys thought about it's adequacy. Buffalo Bore lists there 260grn JHP heavy load at 1,450fps from a revolver, I've got to think coming out of a 20" rifle you'd push that to more like1,800 fps. Double Tap has one that is 255gn swc listed at 1,775 from a 16'5" barrell. For a 50-100yd shot, do you think a load such as this is enough to do the job?

Congrats, I love the 45 LC. It will absolutely clobber hogs. Most pig hunting doesn't even need a max load, its rare to bag a pig over 250lb. For the big pigs, I would want hard cast or a premium bonded bullet. JHP should be fine for the medium porkers, I've never shot one at a pig so I don't know. Don't get too concerned about muzzle velocity, this cartridge doesn't need supersonic speed for nose to tail penetration. Buffalo Bore will certainly more than do the job, have fun!

Thanks for the follow up, I appreciate it. I think I'll take my Super Redhawk scoped for myself. 335 grn Cor Bon's come screaming out of it in 454

I often carry a Ruger SA in .45 Colt when hunting. From what I have found, it does not take a max load cartridge to kill hogs. 250 grain LSWC, over a lot of 2400, will move along around 950 fps, and will go end to end through a hog.
