Any input on Ranier Bullets ???

I just got a USP40C and am going to start loading for it when my dies arrive. I have seen some pretty good deals on Ranier bullets and was wondering if anyone has any reasons not to just jum into a box of 1000. I could get a couple of sample packs if there are any personal issues, but the price break on the 1000 box is pretty substantial. Any help would be appreciated ... I also load for a .357 if that adds any confusion to the question.

I have used Ranier bullets extensively for 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP, with no problems whatsoever.

I am just about to finish up my fourth 500 rnd box of Rainier 200 gr HPs from Dillon. I'll get some more. No problems at all.

I have loaded about 200,000 Ranier bullets, about 120,000 have been in 40S&W. Never had a problem with them.

About a year ago I ran into some shooters at a club range in SW Arizona, who were upset with Ranier bullets. I was loading hot and heavy then and had no problems. I think Ranier did change their manufacturing process last year. My Glocks and H&K's really don't know the difference between Winchester, Berry's or Raniers...They like them all....

Rainier bullets are made just about 3 miles from where I'm sitting. Their new addition to the mfg. process is a second burnishing that makes the bullets quite a bit better looking. They have always performed well.
Since the EPA invaded our ranges locally, Rainiers and fully jacketed bullets are all we can fire. No lead bullets and not even jacketed bullets with some lead exposed at the base are allowed.
The only problem with Rainier bullets is in magnums. Over about 1150 fps you are at some risk of shedding the plating, though it has never happened to me. I use them in .45acp quite hot and never had a problem.

Rainer's are some good plated bullets.

But, Berry's Bullets are cheaper and of the same quality.

If you go to GlockTalk which has a very active Reloading group, you'll find that Berry's is the brand.

You can order directly from Berry's out of Utah. They have a website too . . . http://www.berrysmfg.com/ . . . I believe. Call (800) 269-7373 and ask for their prices. Tell them Duncan from GlockTalk sent you.

I'm pushing them to list their prices on their website and maybe move towards a secured online purchase system where all we have to do is jump on the Net pop out our credit cards and the bullets show up . . . Now that's some e-commerce.

I talked to Rainer about selling directly to the public and they poo pooed the idea. Berry's didn't.

Oh, did I forget to say that shipping is also free. Beat that. If they don't respond to customer needs, I'm not buying.

I'm pleased with Rainier. I just received 1000 155 gr JFPs(technically I guess they're electroplated, not jacketed) and they work fine in my USP40C. I use 7 gr of WSF for a very comfortable medium load. I haven't clocked them yet.

I'm using West Coast plated bullets (160gr., fprn) exclusively, for reloading my .400 Cor-Bon rounds. I'm shooting much higher velocities than you will with your .40, with absolutely fantastic performance.

Customer service is great, and at $53 per 1000, shipped, I can actually afford them. I cannelure all my bullets for .400 Cor-Bon; have never had a cannelure penetrate the nice, heavy plating.

I shot Rainiers until I discovered West Coast.

I have used Raniers exclusively in my .40 S&W and my .45 ACP for about 5 years. I've gone through probably 10,000 in that period with excellent performance. I prefer using a jacketed bullet for my 9mm. Regards, Mikey

Excellent tip!!! Berry's prices are great and they ARE friendly. Better yet they have packs of 250 for 10.99 in .357 125JHP and 14.49 for .40S&W 135gr round shoulder. So, I didn't even have to go out on a limb and buy a box of 1000 just to try them. Now ... if the quality is good, I'll be a seriously happy camper.

I don't think this is a silly question ... How do you know that you haven't shed the copper? Would it stay behind in the barrel? I am planning to load the .357's to about 1800 fps and the .40's to about 1300 fps. Your comment seems to indicate that this on the hot side (1800 might even be beyond hot) and I would be interested in knowing what signs to look for.

Well ... I'm about to place my third order with Berry's ... Thanks for the tip! As for .38/.357 yes they make them. I've been loading my .357 with 125 grain plated hp's and pushing them to over 1600 fps with no problems and EXCELLENT accuracy as I am only loading 90% of the max charge to reduce the velocities a little (obviously your mileage may vary, etc). The folks at Berry's said that they felt OK out to the 1200-1300 fps range (my 135 grain .40S&W loads at 1285 work beautifully). The 125's in .38 don't have a cannelure, but they crimp quite nicely as the plating isn't as thick as a normal FMJ's is.
